Okwuchukwu Joshua Nwairo is accused of killing Shane Boruchowitz during a brawl.

JOHANNESBURG - A bouncer accused of killing a man at a popular night club in Pretoria has made a brief court appearance and has been charged with murder.

Shane Boruchowitz died from severe head trauma after he was beaten and stabbed during a fight at Ty's night club on Thursday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, the 23-year-old had tried to stop a fight between friends, club goers and bouncers, when he was assaulted.

Dressed in a black suit, Okwuchukwu Joshua Nwairo appeared in the dock and briefly glanced over the public gallery where one of his friends sat.

Speaking in the Nigerian language Igbo, through a translator, the accused stated that he doesn’t have a lawyer and needs the help of Legal Aid South Africa.

Nwairo still needs to go through an identity parade at a local police station this afternoon.

The case has been postponed until next week, when he’s expected to formally apply for bail.

Boruchowitz’s family was not in court.
